Each and every fall, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada plays host to the area’s biggest geek convention: C4Con, or the Central Canada ComicCon. What began as a small niche event for the local geekdom has grown into one where thousands of movie, television, comic book, and role-playing fans of all ages – a large majority in costume – converge to meet their celebrity heroes, scour the vast floor of merchandise for that special treasure, or play games with like-minded hobbyists.
Certainly over the last several years as this event has grown, and the caliber of celebrity guest has elevated as well. In the past, television stars such as Smallville’s Erica Durance, professional wrestling’s Stacy Kiebler, Superman’s Margot Kidder, and many, many more have graced C4Con with their presence. 2011 saw the great William Shatner appear alongside several other Star Trek celebrities, and this year was no different.
Star Trek’s Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi), and Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura) were all in attendance, and so were Wayne’s World’s Tia Carrere, Lois and Clark’s Dean Cain, Star Wars’ Billy Dee Williams, and Stargate: SG-1’s Torri Higginson all made popular appearances.
But it wasn’t just TV and movie stars that attend the event. C4Con is also a popular spot for comics (come on, it’s a Comic Con), and many artists attend as well. Captain America’s Allen Bellman, Batman’s Tommy Castillo, X-Men’s Michael Golden, Marvel’s Greg Horn, and many many other talented artists appeared to sign their works and even take on custom commissions for fans in attendance.
And that’s not all! C4Con even runs it’s own wrestling federation that operates all three days of the event, and this year, former WWE superstars Bret “The Hitman” Hart and “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash were both in attendance.
A big thank you goes out to a C4Con for their generosity as they gave A1 free entrance to the event. Have a look at just some of the pictures we took below!
