Title: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: SCB on March 31, 2015, 09:18:39 AM
Well that's what we'll call it til they decide on the name.

They've cast Hawkgirl and Rip Hunter today.

Biggest mystery other than what the show will be called is who or what Caity Lotz will be.

Bringing in Hawkgirl huh...wonder if that means they're going to branch out into the galactic events of their universe.

Yea, the Caity Lotz thing is the oddest thing about all this.  Unless she gets Lazarus Pitted and comes back as another character.

Not really into the whole comic book live action tv genre, but I might give this a watch.

Rip Hunter?

Will this lead into Booster Gold?

Probably not, but the Ted Kord version of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are made for tv drama.

This is following the Agent Carter format. Shorter season, 13 episodes, and will air when Flash and Arrow go on hiatus.

Apparently this will be called Legends of Tomorrow.

Synopsis

"When heroes alone are not enough, the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?"

That felt like The Avengers right down to Cap and Thor's "you had to ask" moment

Atom: that's the best Savage can throw at us? We got this thing nailed down.

Captain Cold: why did you say that.

WOOO!  Atom is finally going to shrink.

Also, I haven't seen Arrow yet as it doesn't air till Sunday where I'm at for some reason.  Hope this didn't just spoil anything from it for me

I liked the Vandall Savage character as a kid. Before I developed my distaste for time travel. I'll probably give it a shot, Flash is still pretty good despite it.

So this is looking amazing.  Two big things that stood out to me:

1) You hear them clearly say "I've seen Men of Steel die and Dark Knight's Fall".  So Batman and Superman are official for the DC TV Universe now I'm guessing so a Supergirl crossover that's rumored is probably true now.

2) To go along with that was that fucking KRYPTONITE that Captain Cold was looking at.

Is it just me or does the people who play Hawkman and Hawkgirl have very little chemistry?

Time travel, so of course he'll get better.  :)

Ray Palmer can't catch a break.  It's not even that he's really that reckless compared to Snart (or Ollie!), but for whatever reason he has terrible luck.

Ray continues to strike out, and Snart keeps pushing his buttons.

I can only see Ray coming through when it really counts, and coming through big.  Otherwise, it will look like the writers/producer just doesn't like Atom much (Like writers openly stated they didn't like Rodimus Prime, when asked why they made him look so bad..)

Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)

this is why I normally don't watch time travel shows. Instead of threatening loved ones so the legends would turn themselves in, why not just go back a little further and kill their moms before they conceived?
Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on April 25, 2016, 04:55:13 PM
The fact the hunters are responding to time rewriting by rewriting time themselves gives me a headache.

Yeah, lets go wipe out the League of Assassins and all these innocent bystanders.  Won't affect the timeline, because so far Time Masters have proven to be omniscent gods of time who get every detail right.

Seriously, Rip Hunter and every other time master are terrible at what they do.  Dr. Who would consider this group a Three Stooges comedy show.   :)

YES!

My god, yes.  If anything, killing him saves the next reincarnation, because there's no way Savage would lift a finger to save the one he ruined.

It was pretty awesome.  Even if Ray's usual mo of wrecking it from the inside probably would have been more effective.

Has comic Ray ever grown?  That's more Ant Man's thing, when he becomes Goliath..

"If we survive this, I may shoot you, you bumbling idiot."

Man, tough episode for Ray.  He's always been a schmuck, but this was a new low even for him.

Neat twist.  All of the council's fairly hypocrotical decisions make sense now.

No I didn't see it coming

This show has the same problem as the Mentalist. If they don't catch/stop the villain they eventually look like losers and we stop caring about them. If they do, now what?
Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on May 06, 2016, 09:20:26 PM
And while Kendra had a reason to spare him, Rip's was because, why.  To ask for permission first?

How stupid is that?  If he just kills he, what's the worst that happens?  He can't become a Time Lord anymore?
Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on May 13, 2016, 09:05:35 AM
I give up.  Forget about internal logic or whatever, just enjoy it like you would Gotham.

Vandal Savage is mankinds only hope, because the Time Lords said so.  And now we learn they've been...  controlling time.  The Lords of Time preserve the timeline by manipulating thr !@#$ out of it.

That plot device reveal in general is pretty unnecessary.  As if time travel shows weren't confusing enough, it just brings up too many questions.

Ok, so why not control an outcome where Savage isn't a violent murderer despot?  And why can't they simply redirect the Thanagarian invasion, so they don't attack Earth?  Is it ONLY capable of controlling time travelers, or something?  But that's not what they said..  From their words,  it implied they were creating outcomes, and not simply redirecting the time ship.

Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on May 14, 2016, 10:05:25 PM
So, when Kendra asked Savage not to kill Rip's family, he should have said "ok".

That's only the ENTIRE reason he put that group together to stop him.
Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on May 17, 2016, 05:22:52 PM
Been reading Grant Morrison's run on Animal Man, which is excellent, and came across this scene that's pretty funny after seeing how Rip Hunter acts on the show.

Basically, Animal Man loses his family, and he gets the crazy idea of getting a time machine.  So after a few dead ends, he contact Booster Gold and has him get Rip.  Of course, Rip Hunter gives him a lecture about how fooling with time is dangerous, the machines are VERY expensive, and they can't just let an amateur hop around time.  Then Rip finally asks what he even needs it for.

And Animal Man looks him in the eye and says "The Time Commander and the Lord of Time have teamed up against the Justice League.  I need a time machine to track down their base."

And just like that, Rip hands over a machine.  Doesn't even check with Booster or the JLA.

I guess Rip Hunter's always been kind of a shmuck, and not just on the tv show.  :)

Well we got our setup for Season Two. Hourman is warning the team not to go on their next adventure.

We also know why they are casting two new regulars for the next season, as Hawkman and Hawkgirl left.

So much for the rumor of a different team each season.

Probably the same way he"returned"  at the end of the finale.

Title: Re: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Post by: DocSavage on May 20, 2016, 03:30:34 PM
That's true.

Think I'd prefer the death to stick, though.  Keep the heroic sacrifice as is, and use the ambiguity of time travel to show was he was doing pre Legends.

Thought they never should have brough Barry back for real, too.  (Especially when Wally was so much better.  :) )

Wentworth Miller is confirmed to be on all the DC shows next season. Not sure how, but he has a nice contract with CW and they seem to value him highly.

Prison Break was a great show, but the last couple of seasons were a major downgrade in quality. And his character does die at the end. Not sure how they're bringing it back or why. Heatwave is his brother on there and also coming back.

Why can't Ray just build another atom suit?

Drop him off in his own time, then pick him up six months/a year down the road?  Or change history so he has a space made?  Or maybe just go to another era with better tech, and have one built easy?

I think Ray will have a new suit by season's end. Ray's calling is definitely playing a factor this year.

Changing history shouldn't be an option based on the beliefs of most of the characters.

I assume he already snuck tons of money into his suit, something he could explain as a bad investment. But then he'd have to do it again, which would be a tougher explanation to any corporate board. Plus the world thinks he's dead, so he's likely out of money anyway. Felicity is still running his company.

One thing I noticed about this week, maybe it'll be addressed in a future episode.

When Mick was attacked by the Ninjas, he was dragged off. However a couple scenes later he's in a Ninja getup helping save the day. So did the ninjas help him? How did he get away?

It would be funny if Mick invented the League of Assassin's.  :)

Better yet, Mick meets The Foot.

If only, right?  (Ray Palmer's suit survives enough to inspire Shredder's costume.)

Anyone here ever read the webcomic 8 bit theater?  Used 8 bit Final Fantasy sprites?

At the end of that series, it was revealed the four stooge like "Light Warriors" were being shadowed by a team of four white mages who were the REAL heroes of the story.

Was thinking how all the messes the Legends make of time could be explained as Rip and some time masters basically following them to hot spots, and fixing all the messes they create, because there's NO WAY time should be unaffected by their travels otherwise.  :)

Come to think of it...

Wouldn't they be changing history simply by traveling outside the time stream?  I mean, Ray Palmer isn't running his company,  or doing whatever he'd be doing.  At the least, he neger would have lost his armor.  That's changing history right there:  His own history.

I never really thought about it before, but even ignoring "paradox's", time hopping while trying to avoid altering history is a big catch-22, because the actor's interrupt their personal histories.  They'd gain new experiences, change as people, not to mention lose time off rheir life (Maybe even alter their life spans entirely for good or ill)

REALLY good episode.  The Villain focus, and their own unique entrance, was gold.  Malcolm Merlyn's stock went waaaay up from this episode, from laughing stock to a semblance of the conniving bastard he used to be.

And finally, a proper Black Flash, instead of those stupid time wraiths.

Well, it's tech dressed up as magic.

The room was probably a well kept secret, or may not have been a room at all (Maybe another dimension, like the Mirror Master thing?)

I don't like how they turned Snart into a killer.  Even in his earliest days, he always seemed to have a code against killing.  (I know how you feel about those, but he still had it, like his comic book counterpart did.)

Sort of like Phillip J. Fry in Futureama accidentially killing his "grandfather", and knocking up grandma, making him his own grandpa.  It was always gonna turn out like that, we just didn't know it yet.
