A1 Podcast / Classic Wrestling Memories Vol. 8: The NWO

Podcast: Play in new window | Download

It was arguably one of the greatest angles in wrestling history… At least for a while. Join Seth and Crazy Train as they discuss the background and formation of WCW’s New World Order.

Hear what inspired the concept, and what laid the groundwork to the creation of the stable. How could the beloved “Training, Prayers, & Vitamins” Hulk Hogan turn evil and join a hideous villain group?  And how could he, in real life, be convinced to make what was such a daring move at the time?

What makes this podcast unique is you’ll get the opinion of somebody who was just a fan, and the opinion of a wrestler who was already actively in the business while this was going on.

If you’re a fan of WCW, The Monday Night War, or especially The NWO, this show is a must listen!

Classic Wrestling Memories is back for a unique format this week. Seth and Crazy Train are not discussing a historical event or time frame, but are talking the psychology of pro wrestling. Specifically, what it takes to be a babyface. Train brings 15 years experience as a wrester, with most of those years as a babyface.

Seth lists four things a babyface would NEVER do, and four things a babyface would ALWAYS do.

Plus, both give three examples of great babyfaces with specific instances where they showed these qualities.

On top of that, Seth and Train talk arguably the greatest babyface of all time, Hulk Hogan.

In the final segment of the show, Train demonstrates a babyface interview promo.

Another WWE PPV is in the history books, and boy is it a memorable one. Extreme Rules highlighted some of the best and worst elements of WWE. Join fill-in host Seth as he is joined by Jarret and Josh (with a Norko run-in at the end) to discuss an awesome main event, and an undercard that featured some of the stupidest heroes and villains currently in wrestling.
Not only that, the panel points out some stark contrasts between the PPV and Raw the following night. And where were The Hardys and Finn Balor?
All this, plus Sound-Off and other general silliness, in another fun-filled A1 Podcast!

Wrestling & MMA / Raw 6/05/17
« on: June 06, 2017, 06:05:32 AM »

So who actually hired the bear?

Other than that the Miz Celebration segment was awesome.

Joe choking out Paul E was awesome.

The women are still idiots.

Cass has been attacking Enzo all this time and has somehow fooled doctors.

Weak finish to the main event.

That's what makes an above average Raw folks...

In this thread, we discuss The Braun Strow Man

I like Braun, but shouldn't his finisher be a bear hug?

Think about it, it's perfect. He's so strong and big that he can lift his opponents up in the air in his Bear hug.

I doubt I'll be watching this live, as it starts at like 1AM. But this will air not only on the New Japan Network, but will air on AXS TV next week with Jim Ross on commentary.

New Japan Rumble - I don't know how many entrants there will be, but the following have been announced

Hiroyoshi Tenzan
Jushin Thunder liger
Manabu Nakanishi
Ryusuke Taguchi
Tiger Mask IV
Yuji Nagata

Much like The Royal Rumble, there are always surprise entrants. Last year two surprise entrants were Haku (yes, that Haku) and Kabuki (Yes THAT Kabuki)

Tiger Mask W vs. Tiger Dark - Yes, there are two Tiger masks now. The simple explanation is W is based on a current running anime version of the character. Last time around, W was Kota Ibushi under a mask. It is believed that Tiger Dark will be independent standout ACH. So on paper the match sounds great, but the Tiger Mask W mask looks ridiculous in real life.

IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)(c) vs. Roppongi Vice (Beretta & Rocky Romero) - One thing that is commonplace in New Japan is challengers established by means of a tournament win. That is the case here, as Roppongi Vice (RPG Vice for short), despite showing signs of dissension, won the Super Junior Tag Team Tournament. The Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Division is arguably better than the Heavyweight Division, as teams like The Bucks, RPG Vice, and ReDragon harken back to the great cruiserweight matches of WCW. This particular match might also be unique to American fans because technically both teams are Heels. The Bucks are part of Bullet Club, while RPG Vice is part of CHAOS.

Gauntlet Match For The NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship: Satoshi Kojima, Ricochet, & David Finlay(c) vs. Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Hangman Page, & Yujiro Takahashi) vs. CHAOS (Jado, Will Ospreay, & Yoshi-Hashi) vs. Los Ingobernables De Japon (SANADA, EVIL, & BUSHI) - EVIL of LIJ pinned Kojima in a tag match in the final day of the World Tag League, BUSHI then issued the challenge on behalf of LIJ. Shortly tereafter, NJPW announced that CHAOS and Bullet Club will also have shots at the belts.

A Gauntlet Match two teams will start and compete to a fall. When that fall happens, a third team will join the match. The process continues until only one team is left. It's basically three matches right after each other with the winning team continuing on.

"The American Nightmare" Cody vs. Juice Robinson - Cody is of course the debuting Cody Rhodes sans the surname, who is the newest member of The Bullet Club. Juice Robinson is the former CJ Parker of NXT, who has really come into his own in the last year.

ROH World Championship: Kyle O'Reilly(c) vs. Adam Cole - O'Reilly won the title last month at ROH's Final Battle PPV, so this is a straight up rematch. An interesting note about this match is O'Reilly's not under ROH contract.

IWGP Tag Team Championship: The Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa) vs. CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Tano) vs. GBH (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) - A rare three-way dance for the tag titles. GBH won the World Tag League, beating GOD in the finals. Yano recently returned to New Japan after a long run at NOAH. He and Ishii attacked both GBH and GOD and stole the titles. Since they stole the belts, they were added to the match to make this three way.

IWGP Junior Heavweight Championship: KUSHIDA(c) vs. Hiromu Takahashi - Kushida is in his fourth reign as IWGP Jr Champion, and is arguably the best Cruiserweight on the planet. Takahashi wrestled internationally under the name Kamaitachi. He returned under the guise of the Ticking Time Bomb, and challenged Kushida dfor the belt. He solidified his position as a challenger by pinning Kushida in a tag match involving Naito against Kushida & Hiroshi Tanahashi.

NEVER Openweight Championship: Katsuyori Shibata(c) vs. Hirooki Goto - As I said during the World Tag League posts, Shibata and Goto are lifelong friends who won the tag titles in 2015. However that ended when Goto joined the heel CHAOS stable. Shibata and Goto have traded pinfalls in tag matches.

IWGP Intercontinental Championship: Tetsuya Naito(c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi - This may wind up being the main event, as Tanahashi has main evented every WrestleKingdom for the better part of 10 years. Naito beat Elgin for the title a few months back, shortly after losing the World Title. Tanahashi has struggled a bit since returning from a shoulder injury, but managed to beat Naito's right-hand man in LIJ, Sanada. It's worth noting that Naito is 0-5 in WrestleKingdom matches.

IWGP World heavyweight Championship: Kazuchika Okada(c) vs. Kennny Omega -
It's been a breakout year for Omega. He became the new leader of Bullet Club after AJ Styles left the company, he won the Intercontinental Championship by beating Tanahashi, then won the G1 Climax (the first Westerner to do so) and earned a World Title Shot at the biggest show of the year. If this does main event the show, he'll be the first Westerner to Main Event WrestleKingdom since Brock Lesnar in 2006.

Okada had a great 2016 as well. He assumed control of the CHAOS faction after original leader Shinsuke Nakamura left the company, lost and won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, and finally broke his losing sreak at WrestleKingdom by beating his longtime rival Hiroshi Tanahashi. This will be his third straight year headlining WrestleKingdom.

This is not an original idea, but I think it would be fun.

The rules are simple. Chime in below if you want to participate. Then on the night of The Royal Rumble, you will be given a number between 1 and 30. That Wrestler will then represent you in the Rumble.
