Deadpool (2016)
« on: February 13, 2016, 12:21:22 AM »
Well this actually lived up to the hype for me. Disney/Marvel are very successful because they make their movies for everyone, which is great, but when you make something for for everyone, eventually you make it for no one.

This film knows it's audience and delivers a great movie for anyone who was excited about a proper Deadpool film. They make great use of the R rating and it's a hard R. The jokes, the violence, the action, it's all extremely well written and executed.

When the audience is in on it, Ryan Reynolds is heavily in on it, a certain FOX megastar is an extremely good sport about it and in on it, and the executives who approved so many many little things put in it are in on it, you end up with a fantastic stand alone superhero film like Kickass and Dredd years before that takes several risks and delivers something new to the genre.

What really surprised me, and that's all this movie does, is actually deliver a ton of character between the jokes. I felt for Wade Wilson. I bought into the love story. Yes there is one. I genuinely hated the villain, who could have been very generic in anything else, but they made me care and I wanted Deadpool to kick his ass.

It's a perfect film for Deadpool fans. It's weird, I want to give this even a higher rating, because it had everything it should have. I don't know what else it could have done. It's a very small film too. And they can do so much more for the sequels.

I'm just going to rate it as a Perfect Deadpool movie. The opening credits, end credits, I don't know how, but they even made those very entertaining.

Just got home from seeing this with The Woman for Valentine's Day.  As a huge Deadpool fan this movie was just perfect.  Every little detail was brilliant and perfectly planned.  The Woman was literally having trouble breathing at some of the scenes and sequences.

So was that a SHIELD Helicarrier they were fighting on in the final act?

Also, as a self professed Lawful Goody two shoes, I laughed with how Colossus was presented in this.

It could be, but I figured they'd reference it somehow. They got away with referencing so much else other movies wouldn't it.

Imagine if Civil War referenced Batman by name. Reminds me of when WCW and WWF would name drop rival wrestler's names. What? You can do that?

I feel like this movie does for superhero films what Cabin in The Woods did for horror movies. It dissects it, makes fun of the bad parts, while celebrating why we love the genre.

Everyone seems to be saying that about Deadpool to be fair, ignoring Blade as well.

It's funny seeing people upset and having to take their kids out of the theater because the movie was inappropriate for children.

Umm, it's rated R. What did you expect?

And it's not like the old days, where they just said "rated R", and that's that. Go to any movie website (or, hell, look at the poster in the lobby of  the theater), and they'll tell you why it's rated R. In this case: 'for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity'.

I am certainly not a superhero/comic book movie person. But I need to see this - much the same way I needed to see Guardians of the Galaxy. The hero has Cancer. And he's a smartass. He's snarky commentary about his commute from being... me. (He's better looking, though. Even after the procedure.)

I am going to see it again when it hits the dollar theater I think.  I loved it when I saw it the first time.  Great film.

This was everything I wanted it to be and more.  I was laughing so much that I missed a good chunk of the jokes.  Will need to pick this up on blu ray and watch again with the subtitles.

It was a hit with my girlfriend as well, who happens to enjoy Ryan Reynolds.
